Milton Keynes Education Trust is an approved DfE Sponsor and welcomes expressions of interest from local schools who are considering becoming a sponsored academy.

Educational aims and objectives

Milton Keynes Education Trust’s aims and objectives as an academy sponsor are based on our commitment to securing social justice through high quality education that promotes inclusion and celebrates diversity.

We aim to enhance and enrich the lives of children and young people by providing them with outstanding learning opportunities within and beyond the curriculum, that ensure everyone fulfils their potential and develops the attributes needed to successfully shape, and respond to, the future.

A clear moral framework will promote honesty, integrity, tolerance and respect as well as an appreciation of individual and collective responsibility.

We will secure sustainable school improvement through high quality transformational leadership, professional development and collaborative partnerships.

Core areas of work are:

  • providing high quality broad and balanced education to students of all abilities and backgrounds;
  • supporting school improvement in both primary and secondary schools;
  • providing highly effective pastoral support and guidance to students with a wide range of needs;
  • providing high quality professional development to teachers and school support staff;
  • providing high quality out of school activities for primary and secondary aged students.

Capacity and capability

MKET’s experienced Executive Team has significant expertise in: strategic planning; change management; school improvement work (in both primary and secondary schools); delivering professional development on leadership and management, assessment for learning, behaviour management, improving teaching and learning; initial teacher training, including supporting School Direct candidates; induction of NQTs; overseeing large building projects; providing extended learning opportunities; setting up new provision, e.g. new school and P16 provision. The CEO is also a National Leader of Education and a former Ofsted inspector.

Capacity has been built to support school improvement and professional development in both primary and secondary schools. In addition to an experienced cross phase Executive Team, there is also considerable strength at middle leadership level across the partnership of schools.

Sharing expertise

MKET partner schools work closely together and to ensure an enriched curriculum share a range of specialist teachers, e.g. modern languages, music, ADT, PE and Science.

MKET has a pastoral support team that has expertise in supporting vulnerable individuals and families, behaviour management and improving attendance.

Central services

MKET provides all its schools with a range of central services. These cover:

  • School improvement support
  • EWO/Family support
  • Educational Psychologist
  • Central contract management
  • Finance, including accountancy and audit
  • Admissions and Appeals
  • ICT support, including website maintenance
  • HR support
  • Legal retainer
  • Communication/marketing

The contribution to the cost of shared services is calculated on an annual basis and varies depending on the number of schools in the Trust and the services offered. The figure is based on the recommendations made by the Executive Leadership Team which takes into account the needs of the different schools within the Trust and the central services that are considered necessary to advance the Trust’s aims.


MKET’s Board of Trustees has representation from partner schools within the Trust. Most Trustees have significant experience of school governance as well as professional expertise in a range of areas, including accountancy, insurance, HR.

Links with the community

As a multi academy trust rooted in its local community, the Trust has extensive links with other organisations across Milton Keynes which it can draw upon for support, including businesses, not for profit organisations and other agencies.
